10's!

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night (TGIF) (2011)
This video is very much like a short chic flick film as it shows a girl wake up after a party and then there are flashbacks from the night before, and then her parents come home in the morning. The video has an impressive cast, with people like Darren Criss and Kevin McHale from Glee, and Corey Feldmen, which shows off how popular Katy Perry is, being able to hire people like this, which impresses fans and makes them want to be like Katy Perry. Throughout the video she is miming along to the song which is added on over the top of the video, and there is a clear narrative to the video, which I think is very effective. There are a range of camera shots, and mise en scene has been used in the clothing of the characters to show what kind of people they are, eg. the braces and glasses of the main character and her goofy acting suggest that she is a stereotypical "nerd" and unpopular, but towards the end she is wearing "cooler" clother and she is no longer wearing her glasses and not acting goofy, making the target audience want to be like her.

Thirty Seconds to Mars - Up in the Air (2013)
I absolutely love this music video because it has been filmed on a high quality camera and it is full of interesting objects and people which keeps the audience engaged throughout the whole 8 minutes of the video. It is very much like a short film rather than a music video, and I like that because it is clearly well thought out. The people and objects aren't really related to the song or each other, but they are simply there to show off how popular this band have become and how much money they have, as the people in the video are all celebrities, and the animals used are clearly only something wealthy people would have access to. I like how each individual band member is introduced at the beginning on their own and throughout the video there are shots of them playing their instruments to remind us that this is actually a music video, not just a short film. Slow motion, fast cuts, text, and extreme close ups are just some of the amazing things that have been used to make this music video great to watch, and for our music video I would like to use these techniques. It is a very colourful video, which is deliberate as the new album they have released is all about colour, with the album cover being covered with coloured dots.

Robbie Williams - Losers (2013)
This video doesn't really have anything to do with the song, and it is very simple and cheap to do, as it is just a video of Robbie Williams singing his song over a backing track of someone else singing the song, and then he is talking to people online, with shots of the laptop screen while he is talking to them. There are a few extreme close ups, and a mid shot at the end showing a funny shot of him, but is mainly just close ups of his face and shots of the laptop screen. I love the idea of this video, seeing real people's reactions to seeing a famous person online, but I don't think I'd be able to do a video like this because it only works if you have a famous person to impress people with.
